The speakers were are as follows:
Rod Christie MRICS of CKD Galbraith LLP, Farmer, Land Agent & Chartered Surveyor
Rod runs the property agency and valuation department in CKD Galbraith’s Elgin Office and also farms on his own account near Elgin, Moray. He spoke about the farmland and property market in general and the prospects and outlook for 2010.
Ewan Wallace of Johnston Carmichael, Chartered Tax Advisor
Ewan joined Johnston Carmichael in 1998 after having worked for many years in Tax for two of the Big 4 UK accountancy firms in both England and Scotland. He has a great deal of expertise in the areas of Family Companies, Partnership Tax, Capital Taxes, Trusts and Estates. Ewan discussed various property related taxation matters including Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax planning, in particular maximising Business Property Relief (BPR) for land and Estates.
Colin Whittle FRICS of R&R Urquhart LLP, Solicitor
Colin represents a large number of private and commercial clients throughout Scotland advising on a vast range of issues including trusts, commercial and agricultural law, amongst other things. He is a director of a number of companies and has extensive trustee responsibilities. Colin discussed various rural legal issues including agricultural tenancy matters.
Sarah Tyson FRICS FAAV of CKD Galbraith LLP, Chartered Surveyor and Land Agent
Sarah is based in our Elgin office providing comprehensive rural estate management and consultancy services throughout the North of Scotland. In addition, she specialises in valuation of all types of rural property, including forestry, and is an appointed valuer for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation (AMC). She spoke about various rural estate management matters including rents, renewables and ransom strips.
