Between 1784 and 1788 the Bard lived at East Mossgiel, at a time when the property was described as a simple but ‘n’ ben cottage. He became friendly with a group of local women known as ‘the Belles of Mauchline’. Jean Armour, one of the Belles, fell in love with Burns and they were married in 1788.
Today the property has been modernised internally but the exterior of the farmhouse remains much as it would have been in the 18th century.

Samantha Outten of property consultancy Galbraith said: “This is an extraordinary opportunity to live in a farmhouse with such a close association to Scotland’s national poet. The fact that Robert Burns wrote many of his best known works – and indeed met Jean Armour – while living here, makes this a really inspirational and fascinating property.
“The farmhouse itself has been upgraded to a very high standard and provides comfortable family accommodation in a wonderful peaceful setting just outside the village of Mauchline. It feels very much in keeping with the period. You could sit in the garden and look out over the same views that Burns would have enjoyed in his time.”
The accommodation includes: kitchen, utility room, living room, WC, shower room, and additional sitting room which could be used as a bedroom on the ground floor. On the first floor are two double bedrooms plus box-room and family bathroom. There is an additional bedroom in the attic.

East Mossgiel Farmhouse is just outside the village of Mauchline, with easy access to Ayr, Kilmarnock and Glasgow via the A76 and M77. Local amenities, shops and schools are within a short drive. The location combines a traditional country lifestyle with practical commuting links.
The property has a large byre connected to the house offering storage, a rear garden and there is an option to rent two fields, subject to a separate agreement, for those seeking to create a smallholding or as grazing land for horses.
East Mossgiel Farmhouse is to let through Galbraith for £1,600 pcm.
