During my two week work experience placement with the rural team in Galbraith’s Inverness office, I undertook a combination of office-based responsibilities alongside visits to estates and properties for valuation purposes. I was actively involved in a variety of tasks, which helped to strengthen my understanding of the rural sector.
A key highlight of my experience was visiting estates and engaging with those who work there, gaining firsthand insight into how the valuable work undertaken is applied in practice.
The team were very welcoming, providing an experience that was both insightful and thoroughly enjoyable. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in pursuing a career as a rural surveyor to consider applying for work experience with Galbraith.

I was fortunate to spend four weeks over the summer with the rural team at Galbraith’s
Stirling office, gaining invaluable hands-on experience across a range of disciplines, from
estate management and valuations to wayleaves and building surveys. My time was well-balanced between office-based tasks and practical fieldwork, including assisting with farm
valuations, attending client meetings, and visiting managed estates.
A particular highlight was being involved in the valuation process, from visiting farms to helping compile valuation reports. It was fascinating to see how all the elements come
together in practice.
The entire team at Stirling were exceptionally welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable.
There was always someone willing to share their expertise, and I also had the chance to join
the team at their annual Edinburgh Fringe trip, which was great fun and a brilliant way to
get to know everyone outside the office.
This placement has given me a deeper understanding of the rural sector and strengthened my aspiration to pursue a career as a rural surveyor. It has also provided valuable insight that will support me in my final year studying Rural Business Management at SRUC Edinburgh.
I would highly recommend the Summer Work Experience Programme to anyone
interested in the rural sector, it’s an excellent opportunity to learn from some of the best in
the industry.

As a student athlete intern at Galbraith, I gained invaluable insights into the behind-the-scenes organisation involved within a marketing career, from experiencing one of their largest events to everyday operational tasks.
Over my time at Galbraith I was based at the Stirling office while also getting to experience the Royal Highland Show event. This allowed me to witness the role of a marketer from many different perspectives. I had the opportunity to experience the entire event process, from the extensive preparations and the event day itself to the wrap-up of the event.
I learned about the content creation process and had opportunities to help create content for TikTok and Instagram. I also got to be involved in gathering feedback from the event and participating in team meetings, which truly immersed me in what it's like to be part of a marketing team in a large business.
I would highly recommend applying for work experience with Galbraith as their hands-on learning paired with such a supportive team has been instrumental into giving me professional outlook into marketing. Galbraith was also extremely accommodating to an athlete schedule and this shows their valuable relationship with Edinburgh Rugby functions in many ways. This experience has been invaluable as I head into my final year at university.

I undertook Galbraith’s summer work experience placement with the rural teams in the Edinburgh and Stirling offices. During my two week placement I had the opportunity to get involved in a variety of different work. I not only spent time within the offices experiencing the desk based elements of farm sales and land management, but also had the chance to go out with members of staff to a number of managed estates, natural capital sites, and even attended a SAAVA CPD event.
The team at Galbraith were extremely welcoming, and made the experience not only informative and educational but also really enjoyable. This placement has broadened my knowledge and understanding of the rural property sector and consolidated my goal of pursuing a career in this sector upon completing my studies at SRUC next year.

I recently completed an internship with Galbraith in the rural department which provided me a great opportunity to experience what a career in this sector would involve. I spent my first week in the Edinburgh office before then moving to the Stirling office for my second week which was beneficial as both offices differ quiet significantly with one being in the center of a city while the other in a more rural setting so gave me the opportunity to see both.
One of my highlights of the first week in Edinburgh saw me given the opportunity to create a presentation on NPF4 and its effect on the rural sector to present on the Friday forum. Although the presentation was on teams it still provided a great opportunity to develop my presenting skills in a professional environment in front of senior figures at Galbraith.
For my second week I travelled to the Stirling office. I attended an interesting estate management meeting which allowed me to gain a better understanding of how Galbraith are involved in managing estates such as this and the sorts of tasks they are expected to complete on a weekly basis. After the meeting I was given an overview on AMC, explaining what it is, how it works and some examples of applications that have been submitted highlighting the key information that is required to submit an application.
I thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks with the company experiencing a broad range of work while also learning new skills along the way which will definitely benefit me in my final year of university. All the staff were very friendly and more than happy to help with any issues or queries I had. Overall, I would highly recommend applying for an internship with Galbraith if you are considering a future career as a rural surveyor.
