Highwood is a substantial and attractive architect designed house with an unusual inverted pitch roof. It is located in an enviable situation within the picturesque Braes of the Carse of Gowrie. Its elevated position offers outstanding views of its own magnificent gardens and out to the countryside beyond.
The layout of the house with the living area at first floor level and the main bedrooms below, together with the gull wing roof structure allowing large picture windows throughout the property, take maximum advantage of its desirable setting in the landscape. The house provides generous and flexible accommodation and is ideally set up for family living.
The property is accessed at the upper level with the kitchen which benefits from an LPG Aga, utility room, pantry and cloakroom with toilet located to the rear. An unusual and attractive curved gallery runs the length of this level giving access to all of the south facing rooms. The triple aspect drawing room is particularly bright and welcoming with the cosy adjoining snug benefiting from a Jotel multifuel stove. The drawing room leads out to a superb expansive balcony - ideal for outside dining and relaxing with family and guests. A study or fifth bedroom and an attractive dining room comprise the remainder of the upper floor accommodation.
Stairs lead down from the gallery to the lower floor rooms two of which enjoy direct access to the gardens. There is ample storage provided off the lower hall from which the other four generously proportioned bedrooms are accessed. In addition to the sleeping accommodation there is also a large family room with Jotel stove, a good-sized family bathroom and separate shower-room.
The accommodation, over two floors, comprises:
Upper Level: Kitchen, Pantry, Utility Room, WC, Gallery hallway, Drawing Room, Snug, Dining Room, Study/Bedroom 5
Lower Level: 4 double Bedrooms, Family Room, Bathroom, Shower Room, Store
GARDENS AND GROUNDS
The gardens and grounds at Highwood are a particular feature and will be appreciated by those interested in horticulture. The extensive woodland is a haven for birds and wildlife and offers a high degree of privacy and seclusion for the house truly enhancing its setting. There is year round interest and structure from the wide variety of specimen deciduous trees and conifers surrounding the property. The established nature of the garden results in year long interest and colour although it is at its most spectacular in the Spring when the specialised collection of hybrid Rhododendrons, Magnolias (Stellata and Grandiflora) and Azaleas are in full bloom. The garden boasts a variety of Carpinus, Palms and Acers along with mature Garrya Elliptica, Hydrangea Villosa, Photinia Red Robin, and innumerable other attractive shrubs and perennials. It is truly a gardener’s delight!
Highwood is approached by a sweeping drive leading to a parking area situated immediately to the west of the house. A lawned garden, with well stocked borders, lies immediately to the south of Highwood, with an extensive first floor terrace lying to the front and offering the perfect spot from which to sit and enjoy the rest of the gardens.
