Bay Tree Cottage is situated in a rural location in the hamlet of Butterstone, surrounded by beautiful Perthshire countryside.
Butterstone is an idyllic rural hamlet and whilst offering peace and tranquillity has a good community feel with its village hall. There is an abundance of wildlife and lovely walks on the doorstep. Nearby Butterstone Loch offers opportunity for fishing and walking.
Nearby Dunkeld is one of the best preserved and historic villages in Scotland and is located in the heart of Perthshire's Big Tree Country. It is a popular location with many amenities, including a selection of coffee shops, restaurants, gift and retail shops. Dunkeld has a lively arts, music scene and galleries, including The Taybank, Scotland's historic music pub. There is a convenience supermarket, post office, doctors surgery and primary school. The majestic Cathedral located by a stunning riverside location, with origins from the 12th century is still the parish church and is host to concerts. There are excellent transport connections close by including the A9 leading to Inverness and Perth and a train station at Dunkeld with destinations to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth and a direct train to London Kings Cross and Euston.
There is plenty to keep wildlife enthusiasts busy with the local woodlands being home to the red squirrel. Otters, dippers and wagtails can be observed along the riverside and salmon can be seen leaping at The Hermitage.
Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld is a designated wildlife reserve and home to a pair of breeding ospreys, red squirrels, otters and beavers. Up to 3,000 migrant greylag geese roost on the loch and goldeneyes, mallards, goosanders, teals, tufted ducks and great crested grebes can also be seen.
The Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club is one of the most picturesque in Perthshire and other golf courses nearby include the championship Rosemount course at Blairgowrie. Further recreational facilities can be found at The Erigmore Estate Leisure Park, located on the edge of Birnam including indoor swimming pool with spa and sauna, restaurant and children's outdoor play area. The Tay Forest Park is within easy reach and includes some of Scotland's tallest trees and best view points of lochs and mountains.
Perth lying approximately 18 miles to the south offers more extensive facilities including national retailers, cinema, theatre, concert hall and both rail and bus stations. Dundee lies approximately 26 miles to the east and provides two universities, shopping centres, the Olympia swimming pool and an airport with regular services to London Stanstead.
Bay Tree Cottage is a pretty stone built traditional cottage which has been refurbished to a high standard in recent years. The current owner has utilised the cottage as an extremely successful holiday let. There are two beautifully presented, cosy and welcoming reception rooms on the ground floor both with charming features including, original range fire, wood burning stove, pretty painted wooden floors and window seat. The second reception room offers flexibility and could be used as a third bedroom, study or playroom.
