Cleanside Cottage lies to the north east of the village of Stanley in the country of Perthshire. Stanley provides a general store with post office, primary school, hotels and churches. Blairgowrie lies some 12 miles to the north with more extensive facilities including a super market, individual retailers, secondary school and library. The City of Perth can be reached in a 15 journey by car to the south and offers a broad range of amenities and services including restaurants, cinema, theatre, concert hall and national retailers Dundee, known as the City of Discovery, lies some 20 miles to the south east. It has an airport with services to London Stansted, two universities, shopping centres, swimming pool and a mainline railway station.
The locality offers a diverse range of outdoor activities including golf, varied walks and mountain biking routes. A short walk from Cleanside Cottage is the River Tay which has some of the best fishing in Scotland. Winter sports can be enjoyed at Glenshee, reached in about a 50 minute journey by car to the north.
