Fortanach is a traditional smallholding situated centrally to the County of Angus. The county is renowned for its productive farmland and offers the full package, from its sandy beaches to the south and east to the Angus glens to the north. There really is something for everyone. There are numerous opportunities for mountain biking, hill walking and climbing and the River Tay to the south is popular with sailors. For golfers, Angus has an unrivalled selection of highly rated courses close to hand, including the championship course at Carnoustie as well as a number of local courses at Kingennie, Forfar, Montrose, Arbroath and Edzell. The ski slopes of Glenshee are just over an hour to the north and there is also a number of interesting National Trust for Scotland properties in the area and Barrie House in Kirriemuir, once home to the creator of Peter Pan.
Dundee lies a 10 minute drive to the south and offers an excellent range of big city amenities including an excellent range of shops and professional services, cinema, theatre, two universities, railway and bus stations as well as an airport with regular flights to London Stanstead and Amsterdam.
State schooling is available locally, with private education being provided at the High School of Dundee.
