A SHORT PERSONAL REFLECTION FROM THE OWNER
“What has made living at Linton Burnfoot so special for us you won’t see in the photographs.  Here are just a few of them: sitting in the garden listening to the bird song; watching the aerobatics of the swallows and house martins, or seeing the barn owl flying low over the field or perching on a nearby fence post at dusk; watching the goldfinches on the seed feeders in winter, or the flower heads in summer, seeing the deer and their young springing over the field and into the small wood, or watching the endless antics of the young lambs in the field just below the house, or perhaps catching a rare glimpse of a weasel darting out from a small hole at the bottom of the wall.  One of the loveliest memories of this last summer was sitting in the garden watching four young swallows which had only just left their nest and managed to land on the tiles or in the gutter just above it.  The parents patiently encouraged them gradually higher and higher up the roof to the ridge at the top, from which they launched into flight and freedom.  Simply wonderful.  And I haven’t even mentioned the bumble bees or the butterflies.”
