Yetholm is a charming and well kept conservation village which lies in the Bowmont Valley amidst beautiful scenery at the foot of the Cheviots. In former times the village, close to the English border, was famous as a centre for smuggling and as a home of the Yetholm Gypsies who were involved in this trade but have long since departed. Yetholm provides a good range of local amenities including pubs, post office, general store, butcher and primary school.
A wider range of amenities can be found in Kelso. The town is a good shopping centre and boasts a wide range of services plus recreational and sporting facilities along with a newly built and well regarded secondary school
Balcherry is an attractive, traditional village house dating from the 19th Century. The house forms part of a terrace of similar age houses close to the centre of the village.
The split level accommodation has been extended over the years to provide spacious accommodation. The public rooms at the front of the house both have working chimneys. The dining room has an open fire and the sitting room has a wood burning stove. There is a large walk in storage cupboard accessed from the sitting room.
A large kitchen breakfast room and family bathroom has been created on the mezzanine level. There is access to the rear garden at this level. On the first floor are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom. A loft ladder provides access to the fully floored attic. Two roof windows provide natural light into this useful storage space.
There is an enclosed rear garden currently surfaced with gravel and with access to Deanfield Court. To the front of the house is a south facing garden with mature beds and hedges interspersed with paved paths
From Kelso take the B6352 to Yetholm. On entering the village follow the road to the right. Take the right turn opposite the Plough Hotel. Take the left turn at the village shop. Balcherry is located on the right hand side of the road in the middle of the terrace.
