Slaidhills has a wonderful, remote rural location and enjoys fine south easterly outlooks. The cottage is approximately 1.3 miles from the public road and the private farm road providing vehicular access is best suited to a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Whilst the cottage is remote, once you reach the public road the A7 is within easy reach. The cottage is surrounded by rolling Borders hills.
Slaidhills is well placed for those who enjoy countryside pursuits and the surrounding hills have been walked by Sir Walter Scott, Thomas Carlisle, William Wordsworth and others—each of whom has celebrated the fine scenery in words and verse.
Nearby Hawick provides a wide range of amenities including shops, banks, public houses, hotels, primary and secondary schools. Hawick is an important Borders centre and hosts a number of spectacular events throughout the year including the annual common riding.
Slaidhills is an attractive traditional detached cottage with a good deal of character and potential.
The cottage is now in need of refurbishment and upgrading with both the attic room and the attached stone byre giving the purchaser the opportunity to extend the existing accommodation if desired—subject to obtaining the necessary consents.
An old range in the living room could be made into an attractive feature.
There is currently no electricity supply at the cottage, the geneatior having been removed.
Porch, hall, living room (with store off), kitchenette, rear hall, bathroom and double bedroom.
Landing, double bedrooms and attic room.
There is a small area of garden ground to the front /southeast of the cottage and there is a small paddock to the rear/northeast of the cottage. The paddock is largely enclosed by a dry stone dyke.
There is a timber and corrugated iron lean-to adjoining the attached byre which could be used as a car port or to take access to the rear of the cottage.
From Hawick travel south west on the A7 towards Carlisle. After about 6 miles (approximately 2 miles past Newmill on Teviot and just before crossing the River Teviot) turn right at the sign for Commonside. Continue along this road to Commonside Farm and the access road to Slaidhills is on the right.
Viewings are strictly by appointment with the selling agent. Viewers will be met at the foot of the private access road as there are several gates to open and close on the way up to Slaidhills.
