Allanton is a picturesque Berwickshire Conservation village approximately a mile from Chirnside. The village has a popular inn/restaurant and village hall, primary schooling and local shops being available in Chirnside.
Secondary schooling, and a wider range of shops and amenities are available in Duns while Berwick upon Tweed has a main line railway station.
Allanton developed as an estate village to Blackadder House and is within comfortable reach of the Berwickshire coast and the A1. Both Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne are within approximately a one hour drive. The surrounding countryside is noted for its scenery and outdoor pursuits.
Blackadder Bakehouse dates back to the 19th Century and was formerly the bakehousee to the Blackadder Estate. The cottage is a charming end-terraced property opposite the Allanton Inn and has undergone upgrading and improvement in recent years.
