Muilean is in the charming hamlet of Kilmuir on the north shores of the Moray Firth. Set back from the road and slightly elevated, the house has beautiful south-facing views over the water to Nairnshire and beyond. Formerly a fishing village, Kilmuir is a single row of cottages and houses strung out along a dead-end road that follows the shoreline and is set against a backdrop of community-owned woodland. There are regular sightings of bottle-nose dolphins in the firth and from the house there is direct access across the single track road to the beach where boats can be launched.
Inverness, which is just a short drive from Kilmuir, has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the south and Europe. This prosperous and expanding city benefits from excellent communications and inward investment and yet, as the city has grown, it has lost none of its Highland cultural identity, seen in its strong sense of community and thriving arts scene.
The current owners built Muilean in 2011 and latterly have run it as a very successful holiday let. The house has been thoughtfully designed with beautifully appointed, family accommodation which takes advantage of the stunning views and fills the house with coastal light. The sitting room and dining kitchen have full-length windows along their south-facing walls and doors to the garden, while the spacious bedroom accommodation is over both floors and includes two bedroom suites.
Muilean is let through the owners’ website, AirBnB and TripAdvisor. The business element of the property is available to purchase by separate negotiation.
