Taigh na Coille enjoys an elevated position set back from the road in a delightful, rural location. The house comes with a large area of ground extending to in excess of 5 acres. Adjoining the boundary to the rear is a large, privately owned forest providing protection and privacy. To the front of the house, the grounds slope down towards the road, beyond which are large areas of peatland, Claddach Vallay strand and long stretches of beach. Taigh na Coille is situated close to the small crofting township of Sollas in Lochmaddy on the island’s north west coast. Local amenities include a Co-op and community centre and at Lochmaddy a church, medical practice, bank and post office. Also in Lochmaddy is Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre, offering a choice of events, films, music and courses. At Bayhead is a primary school and at Benbecula, a small island between North and South Uist, a secondary school, hospital and leisure facilities.
The popular island of North Uist is known for its wildlife and the forest behind the house offers a natural habitat for the white tailed eagle, owls and deer. Other species include the goldcrest, the UK’s smallest bird. There are also numerous walks to enjoy close by including to Vallay Island accessible at low tide. The area benefits from a choice of transport links including a ferry terminal at Lochmaddy with regular services to Uig on the Isle of Skye and Benbecula airport offering direct flights to Stornoway on the Island of Lewis and Glasgow.
The architect designed Taigh na Coille offers very spacious accommodation over two floors and is ideally suited as a family home or stunning holiday accommodation. The layout of the property also offers the potential for bed and breakfast with ground floor bedroom and adjoining shower room. To the front of the property is a very large open plan living area with wood burning stove and vaulted ceiling with a vast cathedral style window extending the full height of the house and offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and sea. These can also be enjoyed from the superb galleried landing providing ample space to sit and relax. Adjoining the house is a large garage/workshop which can also be accessed from the property.
