Woodpool lies in a delightful woodland setting in the Strath of Kildonan close to Helmsdale in Sutherland. The house was built in the mid 1970s and has been carefully positioned within its site, benefiting from the sun throughout the day and to take advantage of the beautiful views to the falls on the River Helmsdale with a backdrop of heather clad hills. The property offers well laid out and comfortable family accommodation with its bright, open plan sitting room and dining room and generous bedrooms. Woodpool has recently been run as a seasonal holiday let and with its proximity to world class fishing and stalking and its setting in an unspoilt landscape providing a habitat for rare native wildlife, the potential exists to further expand this business.

The county of Sutherland is famous for its open countryside and rugged mountains as well as its beautiful coastline with wonderful sandy beaches. The area offers many opportunities for rural pursuits including walking, cycling, fishing and field sports. Gold-panning in local burns has been a feature since the 1869 Kildonan Gold Rush. The RSPB bird sanctuary on the Flow Country, is 13 miles further north at Forsinard. Nearby is the famous Dunrobin Castle, home to the Dukes of Sutherland and now a popular tourist attraction during the summer months. Helmsdale is within easy reach and offers good local amenities including shops, restaurants, health care facilities, a primary school and a railway station. Inverness is about an hour and a half’s drive away and has all the facilities of a modern city including its main line railway station and airport with regular flights to the south and Europe. There is a request halt station on the Northern Line, one mile from the house.
