The Hideaway forms part of a row of cottages in a secluded location to the north of Lugate Farm. Lugate lies 1.5 miles to the south west of Stow and is reached by a private road from the public road.
The village of Stow provides many local services including a primary school, health centre, cafe and a well stocked village shop and post office. There are also a number of leisure facilities in the village including an all weather multi-court, bowling club, park with new children’s playpark and the opportunity to join clubs and hobby groups. The immediate area has many varied walks along the banks of the Gala Water and in the surrounding hills.
Stow is exceptionally well placed for enjoying a rural lifestyle whilst being in easy commuting distance of Edinburgh. The A7 runs through the village and it is 21 miles to Edinburgh city by-pass. Stow train station is within easy reach of The Hideaway and there is a regular service to and from Edinburgh and Galashiels.
The bustling town of Galashiels lies approximately 7 miles south of Stow and is also easily accessed by both road and rail. Galashiels benefits from a good range of shops (including 2 major supermarkets) and a wide variety of recreational and sporting facilities. There are several primary schools together with a secondary school located in the town.
The Borders General Hospital and Scottish Borders Council headquarters are both within easy reach. The surrounding countryside is noted for its scenic beauty, and offers superb opportunities for mountain biking, horse riding, walking, golfing, cycling and fishing.
The Hideaway is a stone built end of terrace cottage dating from circa. 1880. The house, originally two cottages, was converted into one house and lies on the west end of the terrace of three properties. A wooden gate provides vehicle access from the farm road and leads into a private and peaceful garden. The front garden is laid to lawn and is surrounded by mature trees and a hedge. The rear garden is also surrounded by a hedge and is laid mostly to lawn.
The double garage has fitted workbenches and a wood burning stove, with ample mains powered sockets & good lighting.
A further area of garden ground at the east end of the terrace will be made available with the property, if required. It has many potential uses - for example, it has previously been cultivated as an organic vegetable garden, or it would make a lovely small orchard.
