There are regular commuter rail services to Glasgow from Lanark with journey times of about 50 minutes. West Calder station, some 9 miles from Forth Mains, provides regular rail services to Edinburgh (approx. 30 minutes).
Recreational and sporting amenities in the area include golf courses at Lanark and Carnwarth, fishing on Cobbinshaw Loch and hill walking on Tinto Hill. There is a multi-screen cinema and a leisure pool in Livingston.
