A good range of local services and amenities is available in Leven and Kennoway which are both about a five minute drive from the property, with a wider comprehensive offering on hand in nearby Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy. A short drive to the north east lies the ancient and historic cosmopolitan university town of St. Andrews, renowned world wide as the “Home of Golf” and with its excellent range of specialist shops and facilities whilst Fife’s main county market town of Cupar has a very good offering of local services and a regular Farmers’ Market. To the north the resurgent city of Dundee is home to Scott’s ship RSS Discovery and V & A Museum, with Edinburgh also within comfortable driving and commuting distance. Surrounding Wester Durie is some particularly fine Scottish countryside with a lovely mix of farmland, woodland, hill, coastline and river. The result is home to an array of wildlife and provides an excellent choice for the outdoor enthusiast with walking, cycling and riding all readily available. There are many highly regarded golf courses in the area including the Old Course at St. Andrews which regularly hosts the British Open, whilst the excellent courses at Leven, Lundin Links, Ladybank and Elie are all within a ten minute drive of the house. The wide open spaces of the Lomond Hills and the pretty fishing villages of Fife’s quaint East Neuk are within comfortable driving distance and in terms of days out there are good sandy beaches at St. Andrews, Tentsmuir and Elie. There are a number of popular National Trust for Scotland properties in the area including Hill of Tarvit, Kellie Castle and Falkland Palace. State schooling is available locally with independent schooling being provided at the High School of Dundee and St. Leonards in St. Andrews. There are railway stations in Markinch (6 miles) and Kirkcaldy which are on the East Coast line with regular direst connections to Edinburgh, Kingscross, Aberdeen and Inverness. Edinburgh Airport is less than forty-five minutes to the south. The regional airport at Dundee offers a good selection of short haul flights.
