The Elms is a charming and most substantial village house, attractively positioned on Park Place just a short walk from Elies renowned harbour and sandy beach. As one of Fifes (and possibly Scotlands) most sought-after and exclusive destinations, Elie (and adjoining Earlsferry) benefit from a cosmopolitan and highly eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and such like. The golden sandy beach is particularly fine whilst the famous links golf course enjoys a reputation as one of Fifes best courses. Elie also has a sports centre with a nine hole golf course, tennis courts and a driving range. The popular Fife Coastal Path runs through the village. Close by are the other quaint and pretty white-washed fishing villages of Fifes East Neuk which include Crail, Anstruther and Pittenweem, each of which offers an interesting mix of shops, restaurants and a good range of local services and facilities. A short distance to the west lies the town of Leven which provides a wider range of options in terms of shops and the like and a short drive to the north is Fifes bustling county market town of Cupar which also offers a good choice of amenities. St. Andrews, the ancient and historic university town known world-wide as The Home of Golf is about thirteen miles to the north-east. In terms of the cities, the thriving Dundee is within comfortable driving distance with Edinburgh also in easy reach, being about forty-five miles distant. Complementing Elies charming quaint village feel, the surrounding rolling countryside and coastline are simply outstanding. With a delightful mix of farmland, hill, woodland, river and coastline, the area is home to an array of wildlife and also offers great scope for the outdoor enthusiast. Walking, cycling, riding, sailing, fishing and shooting are all available close by. There is also an outstanding array of highly-rated golf courses including Elie itself, Crail, Kingsbarns, Leven, Lundin Links and the many courses in and around St. Andrews including The Old Course which plays regular host to the Open Championship. The event is next due to visit in 2021 for its 150th anniversary.
Part of this area of Fifes attraction as a holiday destination is its excellent accessibility which allows rapid access from the Scottish central belt, both east and west. Edinburgh airport is less than an hour away by road and there are several main line railway stations dotted throughout Fife including Inverkeithing, Markinch, Burntisland, Cupar, Ladybank and Leuchars. Good state primary and secondary education is available locally with independent schooling being provided at St. Leonards in St. Andrews and the High School of Dundee.
