GENERAL

Woodside Cottage is a charming house set in a lovely semi-rural situation on the edge of the hamlet of Charlottetown in the heart of the Howe of Fife. Local services and facilities are available close by in Ladybank and Freuchie, whilst the bustling market town of Cupar, just a short drive to the east, provides an excellent range of amenities with a good mix of shops, restaurants, supermarkets and the like. Slightly further afield, Glenrothes, about 6 miles to the south, provides for all city facilities, whilst to the east, the ancient and historic university town of St. Andrews also offers an excellent selection of amenities and is also a major tourist destination.
Lying in the heart of Fife as it does, Charlottetown offers ready access to some particularly fine countryside, with large mixed woods literally on the doorstep, and a lovely mix of rolling hills, wood, river and coastline all within easy reach. Outdoor enthusiasts are particularly well catered for with riding, walking, cycling, sailing and fishing all readily accessible, but it is perhaps golf which Fife is most famous with many top quality courses in the region including the world renowned Old Course at St. Andrews. In terms of visitor attractions and days out, the area is well served by a number of National Trust for Scotland properties including Hill of Tarvit Mansion, Kellie Castle and Falkland Palace, with the wide open spaces of the Lomond Hills and the quaint fishing villages of the East Neuk also a short drive away. Cupar is home to a thriving monthly Farmers’ Market. There are a number of good state primary and secondary schools in the area, with independent schooling on hand at St. Leonards in St. Andrews, The High School of Dundee and Kilgraston at Bridge of Earn.

The area benefits from excellent accessibility with the cities of Glenrothes, Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh, with its international airport, all within a forty minute drive south of Charlottetown. There are mainline railway stations in nearby Ladybank (with regular trains to Edinburgh in under an hour), Cupar and Markinch and a local bus route passes regularly by the cottage.
