GENERAL
The Tannery is located in the heart of
Kilconquhar which is a beautiful East Neuk
village with some particularly fine architecture
and which benefits from a church, local pub and
bus service. Kilconquhar is situated just a short
drive from the sought-after villages of Elie and
Earlsferry which benefit from a cosmopolitan
and highly eclectic mix of shops, restaurants,
pubs and other services. The beautiful golden
sandy beach at Elie is particularly fine whilst the
famous golf links enjoys a reputation as one of
Fife’s best courses. Elie also has a sports centre
with a nine hole golf course, tennis courts and
driving range. Close by are the quaint pretty
white-washed coastal fishing villages of the
East Neuk which include Crail, Anstruther, St.
Monans and Pittenweem, each of which offer an
interesting mix of shops and restaurants with a
good range of local services and facilities. A short
distance to the west lies the town of Leven, with
a wider range of options in terms of shops and
the like whilst a short drive to the north lies Fife’s
bustling county market town of Cupar which
also offers a good mix of options. St. Andrews,
the ancient and historic university town, known
world-wide as the home of golf is some eleven
miles to the north-east of Kilconquhar. In terms
of cities Dundee is within comfortable driving
distance with Edinburgh also relatively close at
hand, about forty four miles distant.
The surrounding rolling countryside and
coastline are simply outstanding. With a
delightful mix of farmland, hill, woodland, river
and coastline the area is home to an array of
wildlife and offers great scope for the outdoor
enthusiast. Walking, cycling, riding, sailing,
fishing and shooting are all available close by
along with an outstanding array of highly rated
golf courses including Elie, Crail, Kingsbarns and
the many courses in and around St. Andrews
which includes The Old Course, host to the
British Open in July 2015.
Part of this area of Fife’s special attraction as a
holiday destination is the excellent accessibility
from the Scottish central belt both east and
west. Edinburgh airport is less than an hour
away by road and there are several mainline
railway stations dotted throughout Fife including
Inverkeithing, Markinch, Burntisland, Cupar
Ladybank and Leuchars.
