2 Coastguard Cottages is situated in a quiet location off Admiralty Lane, a stone’s throw from Elie’s famous harbour and sandy beach. As one of Fife’s (and possibly Scotland’s) most sought after and exclusive destinations Elie and Earlsferry benefit from a cosmopolitan and highly eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and sporting facilities. The golden sandy beach at Elie is particularly fine, whilst the famous Links Golf Course enjoys a reputation as one of Fife’s best courses. Elie also has a sports centre with a 9 hole golf course, tennis courts and a driving range. A sailing club and water activities can be found at the harbour The popular Fife coastal path also runs through the village. Close by are the quaint and pretty white washed fishing villages of Fife’s East Neuk, which include Crail, Anstruther and Pittenweem, each of which offers an interesting mix of shops, restaurants and a good range of local services and facilities. St Andrews, the ancient and historic university town, known worldwide as the home of golf, is about 13 miles to the north east of Elie. The cities of Edinburgh and Dundee are also relatively close at hand.
Complementing Elie’s quaint village appeal, the surrounding rolling countryside and coastlines are simply outstanding. With a delightful mix of farmland, hill, woodland, river and coastline, the area is home to an array of wildlife and offers great scope for the outdoor enthusiast. Walking, cycling, riding, sailing, fishing and shooting are all available close by. There is also an outstanding array of highly rated golf courses including Elie itself, Crail, Kingsbarns and the many courses in and around St Andrews, including The Old Course which plays regular hosts to the Open Championship.
Part of this area of Fife’s attraction as a holiday destination is its excellent accessibility, which provides rapid access from the Scottish Central Belt both east and west. Edinburgh Airport is less than an hour away by road and there are several main line railway stations dotted throughout Fife including Markinch, Cupar and Leuchars.
Good state primary and secondary education is available locally with independent schooling being provided at St Leonard’s in St Andrews and the High School of Dundee.
2 Coastguard Cottages is a charming mid-terraced sandstone house which dates from 1890 when it formed part of a terrace of coastguards’ cottages. The house has a lovely south-facing façade looking out over its own lawn. Internally the house is in good decorative order and offers accommodation over two levels extending to about 79 sq.m (830 sq. ft) and is approached by an entrance hall with bedroom 3 off. A further door leads to a spacious family kitchen/dining room which has a good range of fitted floor and wall cupboards. Doors open from the family kitchen into a lovely sitting room which has an open fireplace with a timber surround and a glazed door leading out to the south-facing garden. A staircase leads off the living room to the first floor where there are two good sized bedrooms served by a family bathroom. The master bedroom enjoys sea views.
2 Coastguard Cottages is approached from Admiralty Lane by a shared tarmac sweep which leads to two car parking spaces to the north of the house. To the front of the house is a south-facing garden which is largely laid to lawn.
