Quietly positioned on the southern edge of the popular village of Newton of Falkland, Glen Newton is a former maltings offering great potential in a wonderful setting just a short drive from the sought-after conservation village of Falkland in the Howe of Fife where the ancient Falkland Palace is a very popular tourist attraction managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Local shops and services are available in Falkland and there is also a primary school as well as a post office and a number of hotels and pubs. Impressively positioned in the lee of the Lomond Hills, the village of Newton of Falkland is very well placed for access to Cupar, Dundee and St. Andrews. There is also rapid access to Edinburgh and Perth via the main motorway network.
The Falkland area offers ready access to the beautiful rolling countryside of Fife with a lovely mix of farmland, coastline, hill and river, the result being a fine choice for the outdoor enthusiast with walking, riding, cycling sailing and of course golf all readily available. The area is also home to an array of wildlife with the wide open spaces of the Lomond Hills offering considerable scope. There are many highly regarded golf courses in the area including the renowned Old Course at St. Andrews which regularly hosts the British Open, where the next visit is scheduled for the summer of 2015. Ladybank, Lundin Links,Crail, Elie and Leven are also close by. In terms of days out there are good sandy beaches at Elie, St. Andrews and Tentsmuir whilst the pretty fishing villages of Fife’s quaint East Neuk which include Anstruther, Pittenweem and Crail are less than thirty minutes to the south-east. There are a number of popular National Trust for Scotland properties in the area including Kellie Castle, Hill of Tarvit and of course Falkland Palace itself.
State schooling is available locally with independent schooling being provided at St. Leonards in St. Andrews, Dollar Academy and the High School of Dundee to name but a few of the options. There are railway stations in Cupar, Markinch, Ladybank and Kirkcaldy with Edinburgh Airport less than a forty five minute drive to the south. The regional airport at Dundee offers a good selection of short haul flights.
