Commanding wonderful views over Anstruther harbour and beyond, Old Kirk Lodge is an outstanding family house, quietly positioned in a lovely elevated setting with delightful garden in the popular fishing village of Anstruther in the heart of Fifes sought-after east neuk. Centered around the picturesque harbour area, the village is steeped in history with a delightful mix of pretty cottages and townhouses built in the local traditional east neuk vernacular style with crow-stepped gables and red pantile roofs. A good range of local services and amenities is available in the area including an excellent range of shops, health centre and a number of churches as well as the popular Scottish Fisheries Museum. From Anstruther there is also straight-forward access to the other villages of the east neuk including Elie, Crail, St. Monans and Pittenweem, with a more comprehensive offering of facilities being provided in the cosmopolitan university town of St. Andrews and the contrasting bustling county market town of Cupar, both of which lie about a twenty minute drive from Anstruther. In terms of city facilities, Dundee is about forty-five minutes to the north with Edinburgh less than one and a half hours to the south.
Home to an array of wildlife, the delightful picture postcard countryside and coastline around Anstruther is perhaps some of the finest that Fife has to offer making it the ideal setting for the outdoor enthusiast. Indeed, Anstruther and Cellardyke have recently completed a new community support centre and café and there are a host of recreational opportunity available including walking, cycling and, of course, golf with St. Andrews the world renowned home of golf just a short distance to the north and the Anstruther course itself less than a five minute drive from the property. There are many other highly rated courses in the area including Crail, Kingsbarns and Elie. The harbour has added further new pontoons to the marina in recent times increasing the scope for yacht and dinghy owners whilst the Isle of May is just a short sail from Anstruther, with North Berwick and the Bass Rock about a days sail across the Firth of Forth. There are a number of popular National Trust for Scotland properties in the area including Kellie Castle, Hill of Tarvit and Falkland Palace. The popular Fife coastal path also runs close by with good sandy beaches at both Elie and St. Andrews.
Good state schooling is available locally within the village with private schooling being provided at St. Leonards in St. Andrews and also the High School of Dundee. There are railway stations in Cupar, Leuchars, Markinch and Kirkcaldy with Edinburgh airport approximately a one hour fifteen minute drive to the south. The regional airport at Dundee also offers a range of short haul routes.
Old Kirk Lodge was constructed approximately twenty years ago and is a substantial traditionally built house of an attractive white painted harled exterior under red tiled roof. The rooms to the front of the house enjoy excellent sea views.
The house stands in a lovely well proportioned enclosed garden comprising an attractive mix of plants, shrubs, lawn and terraced seating areas, as well as driveway parking.
