DESCRIPTION
Ard Macha (the old Irish name for Armagh) is a substantial property, dating back to around 1850. It is a building full of character, with some original features such as wooden window shutters, mosaic tiled floor in front vestibule and hallway, and several traditional fireplaces. The house could not be any closer to the coastline, and its dramatic location provides breathtaking uninterrupted views. One can hear the incoming and outgoing tides, listen to the sea birds, and watch boats sail in to and out of Drummore harbour from the garden. This lovely property is ideal for sea lovers, yet not far from local amenities and village life.
Ard Macha has a welcoming open plan kitchen/dining room, ideal for family gatherings or entertaining guests. A central island, with a slate worktop, provides additional storage and workspace and cooking facilities are provided by a Rangemaster cooker, with a gas hob, plate warmer and electric ovens /grill, and there is an integrated dishwasher and microwave. The kitchen benefits from a sizable fitted storage cupboard which extends into the space under the staircase. Double doors from the dining area lead into the bright and spacious conservatory, which overlooks the garden, and has wonderful views of Luce Bay and Drummore harbour beyond the stone wall boundary. It also provides access to the Annexe/ Granny flat, and to the vestibule and front door. The utility room leads off the back porch and has space and plumbing for washing machine, and tumble dryer, and has a pulley drying rail for indoor drying.

The comfortable Sitting Room has an open fireplace and overlooks the garden, and has a useful storage cupboard. The study next door is ideal for working from home, it could also be utilised as a dining room or craft room. Stairs lead to a bathroom, on the half landing, then on to the first floor landing which opens to the master bedroom en-suite, a sizeable triple aspect room with sea views from every window, including from the window seat which looks out to the open seas of Luce Bay. The ensuite includes a shower and wash hand basin. Bedroom 2 also benefits from garden and sea views, and bedroom 3 is currently a family room providing an informal room to relax. There is also a modern family shower room on this level. Both bathrooms benefit from heated tiled floors. Bedrooms 4 and 5 are on the second floor, velux windows provide natural light and views, both rooms have coombed ceilings.

Annexe/ Granny Flat
The annexe is a self-contained one bedroom flat, again with wonderful views of sea and garden. The kitchen has a four ring electric hob, sink, microwave and fitted units. The living area has double doors which open out to the decking where you can relax and admire the view. The bedroom has an en-suite shower room and fitted cupboards, ideal for either short stays, or for a family member to have their own space, within the family home.

Green energy has been carefully considered at Ard Macha, with 15 solar panels situated on the roof, and the 4 kW system provides a quarterly income from Feed in Tariff Payments, this will continue for a further ten years. In addition a biomass boiler provides heating, and both the biomass boiler and wood pellet storage bin are situated in the garage.

SITUATION
Ard Macha is situated in a stunning elevated position on the coastline overlooking Drummore Bay, Luce Bay and beyond, on the edge of the harbour village, Drummore. Drummore, the southernmost village in Scotland, has a Primary School, Church, shop and post office, doctors’ surgery, fire station, coast-guard station, hotel and restaurants and a bowling green. Drummore has a real sense of community, a number of residents make and sell their craft work at arranged events in the village and at the Mull of Galloway, and volunteers work together both within the fire brigade and coastguard to protect members of the community.

The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, on Scotland’s most southerly point, is 5.3 miles south of Drummore, has open days for viewing the exhibition, and in addition there is an RSPB nature reserve and Gallie Craig restaurant and gift shop nestled at the top of the cliffs.
Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland’s most exotic gardens and award winning bistro is approximately 6.3 miles from Ard Macha. A variety of tropical plants flourish here in the warmer climate, a result of the Gulf Stream flowing through the region. Terally Equestrian Centre is on the outskirts of Drummore and within easy reach of the property.
Stranraer is the nearest town providing a wider range of shops, supermarkets, offices, a leisure centre, primary schools and secondary school, plus Dumfries & Galloway College.
