Bay Cottage sits in rolling coastal countryside on the southern tip of Ross Bay, approximately 6 miles southwest of the harbour town of Kirkcudbright. Kirkcudbright boasts a wide range of individual shops, services and businesses in addition to well-regarded primary and secondary schools.

Kirkcudbright is famous for being Scotland’s Artists’ Town, a favourite haunt of the group of artists who came to be known collectively as The Glasgow Boys. The National Trust For Scotland now own and run Broughton House on the High Street, once the home of EA Hornel. Kirkcudbright was also home to Jessie M King. In recent years a new art gallery has opened in the town and hosts popular exhibitions year round. There is a huge sense of community in the town, with numerous events held throughout the year, including the Festival of Light and Scottish Night.

The Southwest of Scotland is well known for its mild climate, attractive unspoilt countryside and abundance and diversity of its recreational and sporting pursuits. A wide variety of beaches, coastal paths and beautiful walks are within easy reach of the property. There are water sports and sailing on nearby Loch Ken as well as on the Solway, along with excellent hill walking in the nearby Galloway Hills and cycling along some of the numerous cycle routes, as well as a nationally renowned network of mountain biking routes in the hills and forest parks making up the Seven Stanes centres. The Galloway Forest Park well known for its beauty and tranquillity is also recognised as Britain’s First Dark Sky Park, and provides astronomers phenomenal views of the stars with an Observatory. For golf enthusiasts, as well as the 18 hole course in the town, there are several courses within a short driving distance.

Communications to the area are very good. There are railway stations in both Dumfries and Lockerbie, and the M74 motorway is about 50 miles to the east. Regular flights to continental Europe departing from Prestwick Airport, which is 65 miles from Kirkcudbright to the north. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow with their international airports are about 110 miles.


DESCRIPTION
Bay Cottage is of traditional stone construction, and sits adjacent to the shoreline of Ross Bay. The accommodation is all on one level, with the former boat house store below. The cottage is cosy and welcoming, and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. The Sitting Room features a large picture window, with fitted opening shutter blinds, which gives a spectacular view of the Bay. Original Victorian painted tongue and groove timber panelling lines the Kitchen walls and ceiling giving a coastal feel to the décor, with fitted units and space for appliances. Bedroom 1 has bespoke built in drawers forming a dressing table in the window, along with Hygena fitted wardrobes. Bedroom 2 is accessed through Bedroom 1, and is an ideal child’s bedroom or study. Bedroom 3 also features a Hygena fitted wardrobe and a dressing table with drawers and storage fitted below the window. A good sized bathroom completes the accommodation.
