Corsbie West is uniquely and situated to the north west of the market town of Newton Stewart, access via Ashgrove Drive off King Street. Tucked away on the edge of town in an elevated position, the house is one of the former Georgian sporting lodges of the Earl of Galloway. Originally constructed in around 1780 with a later addition in 1880; the house is of a 2-storey L-plan design, with single storey fishing gun room and front porch addition. The quiet peaceful location is unknown even to some local people.
Constructed of local granite and whinstone with squared granite dressings, the house is rendered with painted facade to the front southerly aspect.
To the front and side is a stunning formal garden laid out in a manner which requires less maintenance than others of its type. The driveway lined with rhododendrons and azaleas opens to the front gravelled area. There is a gently sloping formal lawn to the east which was used as a grass tennis court in the past and an additional formal lawn bounded by a low box hedge to the south, all surrounded by mature specimen trees and a range of flowering shrubs and garden perennials.
