Colvend village has a good village shop, post office and primary school, whilst there is a broader range of shops, schools and services in both Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas.
The area offers wonderful sporting and recreational opportunities and is well known for its mild climate and long growing season. There are numerous lochs and rivers locally providing entertaining fishing as well as salmon and sea trout fishing on some of Dumfriesshire’s larger rivers such as the Nith and Annan. Colvend golf course is situated nearby whilst the championship course of Southerness is only eight miles to the east.
