The Schoolhouse, Darnconner, is in a secluded and private location by Auchinleck, East Ayrshire. It is situated about 3 miles from Auchinleck, which has a good range of local facilities which include superstore, hotel, butchers and bakers. There is a railway station with connections to Glasgow, Kilmarnock and Ayr. The new Barony Campus in Cumnock (about 4 miles) opened in 2020 incorporates both primary and secondary schooling. It has a modern sports centre and outdoor facilities providing enhanced leisure and recreational facilities to the local community. The open-air swimming pool at New Cumnock is 11 miles distant. There is a private school, Wellington in the county town of Ayr (about 18 miles). Ayr has a variety of excellent shops, restaurants and supermarkets, out of town retail park, leisure facilities including theatre and cinema along with a stunning beach. There are many riding and walking opportunities to be found in the local area. Auchinleck Estate is nearby and there is a popular coffee and gift shop (Boswell’s Coach House) within the estate grounds along with enjoyable riverside walks with its dramatic wooded gorges. The cottage was once the former Schoolhouse built for the headmaster, alongside the church for the village of Darnconner. Darnconner, developed as a farming and coal mining village in the early nineteenth century. By the second world war, the village of Darnconner was uninhabited, and the final miner’s row was demolished around 1940. The cottage has pleasant high ceilings in the public rooms with attractive coving and cornicing. From the front door, there is a lovely entrance hall with arched ceiling which leads to the living room which is bright and airy with fireplace with tiled hearth, the spacious sitting room with fireplace has 2 alcoves, and dado rail. There are two bedrooms (one with fitted cupboards), a study, bathroom with bath, w.c., sink and half height tiles. The kitchen has basic fitted units, Stanley Stove with two hotplates, 1.5 bowl sink and a walk-in shelved pantry.
