The village of Muirkirk is well placed and has easy access to the M74 (about 13 miles). Auchinleck Mansion House, was built by Lord Auchinleck, James Boswell in the late 1700s. The Scottish classic-style mansion was designed by Robert Adam, one of Scotland’s most famous architects. There is a popular coffee shop (Boswell’s Coach House) within the Estate grounds. Lochside House and Spa is also close by (about 14 miles) and has a well respected reputation for high quality service.Ayrshire is renowned for its range of outdoor pursuits. There are a number of world renowned golf courses including Royal Troon and Turnberry and there is a popular 9 hole golf course close by. Muirkirk also has a bowling club and there is fishing in the vicinity. The racecourse at Ayr provides regular fixtures. Excellent yachting facilities are available at the marinas in Ardrossan, Troon and Largs. Permit fishing is available at the River Nith. Having only been in the hands of 3 families since it was built by a local gentleman from Glenbuck; interestingly the house is said to have derived it’s name from the original owners wife, Mary Cunningham.
