Ochiltree is one of the oldest villages in East Ayrshire, it has a new Community Hub including coffee shop and book point and fitness classes, general store and pharmacy. Primary schooling is available in Ochiltree, Auchinleck and Coylton. Secondary schooling is available at Auchinleck and Cumnock, and a new super school campus at Knockroon (between Cumnock and Auchinleck) will be open for business by August 2020, Cumnock also provides a leisure centre (Visions Leisure) with swimming pool, gym and fitness classes. Cumnock (4.5 miles distant) offers a variety of local shops, restaurants and sporting facilities. Nearby places of interest include Dumfries House, a Palladian country house set in a 2,000 acre estate, beautiful walled gardens owned by HRH Prince Charles, with visitor centre, Coach House café and shop. At Auchinleck Estate (2 miles) there are splendid riverside walks to Wallace’s Cave and Peden’s Cave. Auchinleck Mansion House, was built by Lord Auchinleck, James Boswell in the late 1700s.
