South Lodge is situated in an enviable elevated position in Drumdow Road, Turnberry, commanding some of the most spectacular views of the Clyde coast towards the Isle of Arran, Ailsa Craig and across Trump Turnberry Golf course including the Turnberry Lighthouse. The world famous Trump Turnberry Hotel and Spa and the beautiful sandy beach are within walking distance. Other local amenities can be found along the coast in the pretty little coastal village of Maidens which has a lovely long sandy beach and boasts the well-regarded ‘Wildings’ restaurant, a grocer’s, coffee shop and primary school. The harbour was originally built for fishing but is mainly used by those who sail for pleasure. Maybole is 8 miles distant and had a selection of small convenience shops, swimming pool, primary and secondary schools. The much anticipated Maybole bypass is underway and the town has been granted a substantial regeneration fund for the town centre. The market town of Ayr has a wider range of shops, supermarkets and leisure facilities.
Ayrshire is renowned for its excellent golf courses and in addition to the world famous Trump Turnberry Ailsa Open championship course, Prestwick and Royal Troon are 20 and 24 miles respectively. There is a nine-hole course in nearby Maybole. Culzean Castle and Estate, built in 1777 by the architect Robert Adam and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland is set in some 640 acres of parkland and woodland with beautiful gardens, swan pond, children’s activity adventure park, gift and coffee shop. The popular Ayr racecourse is host to the Scottish Grand National and some of Scotland’s most testing sailing waters lie around the Ayrshire coast with marinas in Troon, Largs and Inverkip. Maybole has close connections to Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns having been the place his parents met and married. Glasgow Prestwick Airport and Glasgow Airport are 23 and 57 miles respectively.
South Lodge is an impressive detached family home with particular character and charm. Built in 1988 of brick with a cream render finish and tiled roof, the house is presented in immaculate order with an adaptable layout that can be tailored to suit individual living requirements. In recent years the house and annex have been used as a successful holiday let. Internally the property enjoys a stunning split level sitting room/dining area on an open plan basis, with oak flooring, large corner windows which take full advantage of the sea and golf course views and bespoke spiral staircase. Patio doors from the living area lead to a large decking at the front of the house. The dining room has French doors to the Victorian style conservatory with access to a small deck to the rear. The kitchen is fitted with contemporary floor and wall units with complementary wooden worktops, a black Alpha Range cooker with double hotplates, dishwasher, two under counter fridges, freezer, built in microwave and Belfast sink. A useful utility room adjoins the kitchen with washing machine, tumble dryer and double sink. There is a double bedroom with dual aspect windows and built-in wardrobe and bathroom on the ground floor. Upstairs the two double bedrooms benefit from double and triple aspect windows with sea and countryside views, both have built in wardrobes and share a Jake and Jill shower room.
The annex is detached from the main house and if required a separate access could be formed from Drumdow Road. It would make an ideal granny flat, holiday let or simply provide additional guest accommodation. It comprises an open plan living room and kitchen with French doors to the deck overlooking the garden. There is a double bedroom and shower room.
Ground Floor: Open plan sitting room, dining area, dining room, conservatory, kitchen, utility room, bedroom and bathroom
First Floor: Two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill en suite shower room.
The annex has a bedroom open plan living room/kitchen and shower room.
The fully enclosed gardens are entered via wooden gates to the cobbled driveway with ample vehicular parking. The extensive gardens are mainly laid to lawn and bounded by a timber fence and hedging. There is a variety of palm and apple trees and mature herbaceous shrubs. There is a large deck at the front for al fresco entertaining and taking advantage of the panoramic views. The secluded and fully enclosed “secret garden” at the rear is landscaped with stone chips, shrub borders and palm trees.
