Roughdyke Farmhouse is an attractive private and secluded farmhouse with traditional buildings and land in an accessible location between Kilmarnock and Mauchline in East Ayrshire. Primary schooling is available at Mauchline (3 miles) along with a good range of services including doctors surgery and local shops. Galston (about 4.5 miles) has a wide range of local services and secondary schooling.

Roughdyke Farm is situated about 7 miles from Kilmarnock with a wide range of facilities, and is well placed for easy access to Ayr and Glasgow by the A76 and M77. Glasgow city centre is accessible within a 35 minute drive. There are excellent transport links in the area with a regular train service to Glasgow from Kilmarnock and Auchinleck (7 miles), Glasgow Prestwick Airport is about 14 miles away with regular scheduled international flights and Glasgow International Airport is about 33 miles. The county town of Ayr offers a wide range of amenities including excellent shopping, restaurants, cinemas and sports facilities. There are good private and state schools in the area too.

Ayrshire is renowned for its many golf courses, including the world famous courses at Royal Troon and Turnberry. Ballochmyle Golf Course (4 miles) is a popular 18 hole course and the world class, 19 hole golf course designed by Colin Montgomerie at Rowallan Castle is about 10 miles away. There is the popular Racecourse in Ayr and excellent yachting facilities at the Marina in Troon.

The 44 mile River Ayr Way long distance walk is nearby, and the route passes Sorn Castle and crosses the Ballochmyle Viaduct at Mauchline, which are both particularly interesting sections of the walk. There are many opportunities for game sports in the area. Ayrshire has some of South West Scotland’s finest salmon and trout fishing. Dumfries House Estate (about 10 miles) is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes with an outstanding collection of 18th century furniture, beautiful walled gardens and coffee house. Auchinleck Estate (7 miles) has a popular coffee shop (Boswell’s Coach House) within the Estate grounds, along with enjoyable riverside walks.

From the Bellfield roundabout at Kilmarnock, take the A76 Kilmarnock Road for Dumfries. Continue for about 5.5 miles towards Mauchline and turn left at Crosshands onto the B744, signposted for Galston. Continue along this road for about 0.4 miles and after the bridge, turn right and proceed along the farm road.
