7 Leggate is an attractive detached single storey house with well presented accommodation in a quiet edge of village location with open aspects to the rear. New Cumnock is in East Ayrshire, 6 miles south-east of Cumnock, and 20 miles east of Ayr.
The main road crosses the Afton Water here, then takes a sharp kink to the north through the centre of the village, beyond which it crosses the River Nith. It was once a mining village, the collieries that once existed here were closed in the 1970’s and replaced by open cast mines. The village is home to some very attractive buildings and boasts a school, town hall, parish church, railway station, bar and mineworkers’ memorial. T amar Manoukian outdoor swimming pool was refurbished in June 2017 by the Dumfries House Trust. The area benefits from excellent transport links with the train station at New Cumnock a short walk away. Bus links are close by providing access to Ayr, Kilmarnock and Glasgow City. Motorway links via the upgraded M77 motorway network provide access to Ayr (30 minutes) Kilmarnock (30 minutes) and Glasgow (55 minutes).

A new super school campus is planned for Knockroon (between Cumnock and Auchinleck) and work is beginning this year. Cumnock offers a variety of local shops, restaurants and sporting facilities. There is a popular new coffee shop and gift shop (Boswell’s Coach House) within the Estate grounds. Loch Side House and Spa is also close by and has a well respected reputation for high quality service.

Ayrshire is renowned for its range of outdoor pursuits. There are a number of world renowned golf courses including Royal Troon, Turnberry and Rowallan Castle Estate, Kilmaurs, which also has excellent equestrian facilities with an international indoor arena. The racecourse at Ayr provides regular fixtures. Excellent yachting facilities are available at the marinas in Ardrossan, Troon, Largs and Inverkip. There are many opportunities for game sports in the area and Ayrshire has some of South West Scotland’s best salmon and trout fishing. Permit fishing is available at the River Nith.
