Retreat Cottage is a lovely detached cottage which has been renovated by the owners to create an attractive cottage occupying a highly accessible and sought after location in the popular village of Fenwick. Set in a quiet position and enjoying superb views from the rear of the property over the surrounding countryside, the house sits in large attractive grounds. Fenwick offers a full range of local services including shops, public houses, primary school, pre-school nursery (Fenwick Pre-5s), doctors surgery, post office and a popular deli/cafe. Glasgow, which is fast becoming one of Europe's premier shopping destinations and offers an excellent range of restaurants, theatres, galleries and clubs, can be reached in about a 20 minute drive via the newly improved M77. The county town of Ayr is approximately 20 miles away.
Ayrshire is renowned for its many golf courses, including the world famous courses at Royal Troon and Turnberry, both of which have hosted the Open Championship, the world class 19 hole golf course designed by Colin Montgomerie at Rowallan Castle, which includes a first class Hotel and events venue and Restaurant (The Glasshouse) is 4 miles. Retreat Cottage was constructed in the mid nineteenth century and was the retirement home for Captain Michael Nelson, a veteran of the Scots Dragoon Guards who fought at the Battle of Waterloo, Nelson died on 6 September 1872 at the age of 81 and is buried in the graveyard in Fenwick. Two crossed sabres still appear prominently at the top of the monument.
Retreat Cottage was then owned by homeopathic surgeon Dr John Cockburn and he used the property as his holiday home from his townhouse in Glasgow. The cottage was then owned by 3 generations of Cockburns.
Retreat Cottage is set back from the road, built of stone with a slate roof with a warm cream painted finish to the front of the property. The house enjoys period features such as Georgian arched windows and an attractive plastered archway in the Entrance Hall.

The shower room is a fully tiled waterproof wet room with a walk in shower, sink, w.c., heated towel rail and fitted cabinet. An oak door leads to the rear garden area.

From Glasgow enter Fenwick from the M77 via Junction 8. Proceed down Fenwick High Street turning left on to Maunsheugh Road. Retreat Cottage is then on the right hand side.
