Thornylea Wood comprises a mixed species ancient woodland totalling approximately 15.2 acres (6.15 hectares). The forest is primarily broadleaf with a wide range of species of trees. The area is a substantial size with open areas which could provide a peaceful environment for hutting subject to the appropriate planning consents. Located directly off the public road provides useful access and extraction of timber. Being only 30 minutes from the centre of Aberdeen, the area is conveniently situated. The site includes a “Cairn of Arthurhouse” Scheduled Monument (SM3339) in the form of a bronze age burial cairn 14m in diameter to the north east of the area. The site has exceptional views to the north west over the Howe of the Mearns.
