Stirkoke Mains is located near Wick, in the heart of the Caithness countryside. It is a particularly attractive and productive farm which has been maintained to a high standard by the current owners.
Historically, Stirkoke was known for its fine Baronial Mansion, designed by Scottish architect David Bryce and often visited by the Queen Mother. The house was sadly destroyed by a fire in 1994, but the sense of history remains.
The farm extends to approximately 645 acres (261 Ha) with a comfortable, modern farmhouse and an extensive steading containing a range of useful farm buildings. A second cottage, The Gate Lodge, suitable for additional accommodation or as a potential holiday let, is located towards the north end of the farm.
The land is all farmed in-hand, currently as a successful arable and sheep farming operation, with some 500 breeding ewes and mainly spring barley. Predominately low lying, ranging between sea level and 50m above, the land is classified as a mix of Grades 3(2) and 4.
John Bound, handling the sale on behalf of CKD Galbraith, commented:
It's rare that such an attractive and productive farm should come to the open market in the Highlands. It is a great farm with everything in excellent order and with good access to all fields.
Caithness is very much an agricultural county and is well served with merchants and suppliers as well as a thriving livestock market. The farm has proven highly successful as an arable and sheep unit but can be readily adapted to suit other enterprises such as cattle, pigs or chickens in the future if desired.
There is also roe deer stalking, potential for a small low ground shoot and salmon fishing rights on the River Wick at the northern end of the farm.
The farm has been extremely well maintained and looked after over the years and would allow for the seamless transition of new owners to take over at the helm. If bought as a whole, the Gate Lodge offers holiday let potential and an additional income stream while the farmhouse is a good family home in a fine location.
