Our Estate Agency teams often handle the sale of former manses a manse being the term used by the Church of Scotland and other denominations for a house provided for and lived in by the local minister. As "The Manse" refers to a working building such properties are traditionally rechristened by their new non-clerical owners, with "The Old Manse" an oft-used new name. Here are three homes called "The Old Manse" that we are currently selling.

We begin in the pretty Perthshire village of Gilmerton close to the town of Crieff. The Old Manse here was built in 1862 and enjoys a secluded location and an elevated position. A Victoria villa it still has many period features including panelled doors with original door furniture, attractive fireplaces, sweeping staircase and sash & case windows. The property also has an attractive garden and a former Coach House currently used as a garage but which, subject planning consent, could be converted to create annex accommodation.

The Old Manse, Gilmerton, is for sale with CKD Galbraith Perth with a guide price of £425,000.

Now moving north to Alness in the Ross-shire, this Old Manse is an elegant B listed property with stunning panoramic views towards the Cromarty Firth and the Black Isle.

A pleasing blend of Georgian elegance and Victorian innovation, it originally built in the early 1790s but completely restored and renovated by William Cumming Joass - a Dingwall architect after a fire in 1869. More recent upgrades undertaken by the current owners have retained the house's period feel while creating the delightful family home which is currently on offer.

The Old Manse, Alness, is for sale with CKD Galbraith Inverness at offers over £395,000.

The third and final of our trinity of "The Old Manses" sits at the centre of the charming Speyside village of Archiestown. Dating back to 1848 and grade B listed, this former Free Church manse is entered through a striking pedimented front door complete with sandstone Greek Doric columns. Inside is a flexible home including a triple aspect sitting room with open fire; a kitchen/dining room with an oil fired Rayburn; three bedrooms on the first floor and a further two attic bedrooms.

The grounds include an attractive walled garden accessed by a rose covered pergola as well as a central lawn, herbaceous borders and a patio area.
